Embarking on the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) course is widely regarded as the best way to begin your journey toward becoming a fully-licensed solo skydiver.
The AFF course is a structured, rapid-progress skydiving training programme developed by the United States Parachute Association (USPA), and used worldwide by many reputable drop zones.
It is designed to take a complete beginner — with no prior skydiving experience — and teach them all the essential skills needed to exit an aircraft, freefall, deploy and steer a parachute, and land safely.
The course begins with a full day (typically 5–8 hours) of ground training, often called the “First Jump Course” (FJC). During this session, you will learn:

The course begins with a full day (typically 5–8 hours) of ground training, often called the “First Jump Course” (FJC).
After finishing ground school, you are considered ready for your first solo skydive, accompanied by two instructors. You will open, fly and land your own parachute with a little assistance from your instructors, guiding you back to the beach using a radio attached to your jump suit. When you have completed 8 instructed jump levels and proven to instructors that you are capable to go alone, then you’re ready!
Completing the AFF course is just the start. To become a fully-licensed skydiver under USPA rules, there’s further progression required.
Once you have completed the 9 Jumps for AFF, you are cleared to jump solo but remain on Student Status.
